Matthew Brotherton received his honors diploma and bachelor of arts degree in political science, summa cum laude, from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, in 2000. While a cadet, he received the Col. James K. Coleman Award for being the top political science student. In 2001, he completed his masters of science in international relations from the London School of Economics while serving as a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow. Upon returning from London, Brotherton served the state of Tennessee as director of procurement for the Department of Military, special projects coordinator for the Department of Economic and Community Development and as an assistant to the governor. In 2007, Brotherton completed his juris doctorate from the University of Tennessee College of Law. While in law school, he participated in the mediation clinic as a volunteer mediator and was an active member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, the International Law Society and the Military Justice Law Society. Brotherton’s primary areas of practice include healthcare law, general corporate and business matters, municipal law and administrative law. His professional memberships include the American Health Lawyers Association, the Knoxville Bar Association, the Anderson County Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association and the American Bar Association. |
